A remarkable night of baseball…or Opening Day in Vancouver means you miss a thing or two

Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony

Before you get worried – no, nothing huge happened at the C’s game tonight. They lost their 2014 home opener to Spokane 5-2. Lots of poor pitching, but some sensational baserunning by Roemon Fields (2 for 4, a triple and 2 steals).

Plus fireworks.

It was a fun evening.

But I have to also admit I’m a bit sad that I missed 1. Kershaw’s no-no and 2. Tony Gwynn’s wake in San Diego.

Fangraphs have already taken a look at Kershaw’s performance tonight in LA. It’s a remarkable feat:

Here is the full list of nine inning outings with a Game Score of 102 or better, since 1914.

Kerry Wood: 105 (9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K)
Clayton Kershaw: 102 (9 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 15 K)

That’s it. That’s the entire list.

There’s tonnes more in there, but I’ll let you mine it yourself.

Second, there’s what went on in San Diego tonight. It was all about Gwynn in Padreland.

(Seriously, cancer, up yours.)
